02.06.2022 - 31.12.2022

Other exhibitions

As part of the 750th anniversary of the Dubrovnik Statute, the exhibition "Statute in Stone: law and justice in the sculpture of the Rector's Palace was opened on June 2, 2022, organized by the Dubrovnik Museums and the Institute for Historical Science in Dubrovnik - HAZU.

Well-preserved representations in stone statues  and reliefs illustrating the theme of “good government” in the Rector's Palace to this day testify of the principles invoked by the Dubrovnik system of government and its legal system. This are the true loci communes of medieval political iconography, in which motifs of justice are interwoven with the ideals of civic virtues and duties. All these themes are brought together in the iconographic programme of the Palace with the themes that run through the Statute, in effect working as two media conveying the same message.

The author of the exhibition concept: Nella Lonza

Coordination and exhibition set up: Ivona Michl

Design: Flomaster

The exhibition was realized by the Dubrovnik Museums and the Institute for Historical Science in Dubrovnik – HAZU.

The exhibition was produced with financial support of the City of Dubrovnik.
