Preparation workshop for metal
Thanks to the considerateness of the Dubrovnik Conservation Department of the Ministry of Culture, the metals workshop of Dubrovnik Museums is today housed in Ulica Nikole Božidarevića. It works for all the component institutions of Dubrovnik Museums and works in concert with Dubrovnik University and the Conservation Department.
The spaciousness of the workshop has made possible work to be carried out on large items, such as the placing of pools for the desalination of cannon and their restoration. These were in fact 6 bronze cannon called perdiers, raised from the waters off Dubrovnik and today exhibited in the Tower of St Francis on the Dubrovnik walls.
Also restored were the iron cash boxes from the Cultural History Museum, today exhibited in the ground floor of the Rector’s Palace. The bronze gilt dial called Sun from the city bell tower that was made, together with the clock movement, by Pasko Baletin, a self-taught clockmaker from Konavle, have been successfully restored.
